Benefits for Nicholas Owens

Updated: October 6th, 2008

James Transmission Technology is involved in helping the family of Nicholas Owens who was critically injured in a Motorcycle Accident on Sunday, September 28th 2008 at 11:30pm when he lost control of his bike on the curve in front of Ovilla Road Baptist Church. Around 12:15pm a call came into dispatch from an Off Duty Police Office on his way home and said he saw a light coming from the ditch so he stopped to see what it was. He saw Nick walking around very disoriented and when asked to sit down, Nick did and passed out cold and has not regained consciousness since. The officer immediately called for them to send PHI Air Ambulance and other Fire Departments were dispatched not only Ovilla, but Glenn Heights and Midlothian. Nick was transported to Parkland Hospital where he remains in ICU a week later.

He sustained very serious injuries and is still listed in critical condition at Parkland. At first he had major brain swelling and they had to put in a pressure moniter and drainage tube in his head. Luckily the pressure has stabilized although he still has 3 small bleeds in his brain, broken eye socket, broken cheek bone, road rash on that side of his face he hit, fractures in his neck and back and a broken rib. He's lucky to be alive at this point and they are going to have to put stints in because he can't have blood thinners with the bleeds in his brain. They have taken him off of the sedative he was on and he hasn't woke up yet. He has been trying to move his left leg and acting like he's trying to sit up. At this point he is still unconscious although he is responding to some verbal commands. It looks like he has a long road of recovery ahead of him.

Nick has a wife and two very young children who will be needing help during this difficult time. Nick obviously isn't able to work to pull in a paycheck and his wife has dedicated her time to be by her husband's side therefore she has been unable to work so between the both of them, no money is coming in for the family to survive on. Hal Shaffer with Lonestar Motorsports (Nick's Employer) has setup a donation account with Vintage Bank to help the family keep a roof over their heads, food on the table and to help them pay their basic bills. If you are interested in donating to help this wonderful family, please do so the following ways:
